Shelter, story, and strength.
The name Yarliyil comes from a local word for a small paperbark tree—a tree once used for shelter in traditional life. Today, Yarliyil Arts continues that legacy, offering a place of cultural refuge and creative expression for artists from Jaru, Gija and Walmajarri country. It’s a space where stories are painted, knowledge is shared, and connection to country runs deep.
“The art centre makes us feel proud. We see all the good work, people say real good things about our art centre and we feel proud.”
Nathan Stretch, artsworker / studio assistant
